National Health and Fitness Ski Day Wednesday February 26th, 2020 Noon-1 pm
Supreme Court of Canada Lawn
This year the Minister of Health, Patty Hajdu joined over 70 skiers including the Parliamentary Secretary to the Minister of Sport, Adam Van Koeverden and a number of other MPs and Senators. They both spoke about the importance of physical activity for the health, identity and economy of Canadians.
In addition 40 youth from high schools in Fort Coulonge and Maniwaki skied with Olympian Malcolm Hunter from their communities to join National Health and Fitness Ski Day. This 4 day adventure is part of a sports leadership program which builds confidence and ability and culminated with their arrival at our event.
National Health and Fitness Ski Day brings together Parliamentarians with representatives from the cross-country ski sector, and members of the public for an afternoon of skiing on the lawn of the Supreme Court of Canada.
The goal of the event is to promote cross-country skiing as a great form of physical activity and active transportation. It also showcases the possibility of turning schoolyards across Canada into cross-country ski tracks throughout the winter months.
The event is organized by National Health and Fitness Initiatives, Nordiq Canada, and Nakkertok Nordic Club.
